The surprising combination of music and murder magically works for the recently concluded I Wanna Hear Your Song. Revolving around the mysterious death of pianist Kim Ian, the different characters of the drama struggle to recover. Most importantly, they all try to handle the aftermath of the death. But suspicion and doubt bubble up beneath the surface. KBS TITLE I WANNA HEAR YOUR SONG NETWORK KBS2 THEME ROMANCE, MYSTERY, MUSIC LENGTH 32 EPISODES BROADCAST DATE 5 AUGUST 2019 ā 24 SEPTEMBER 2019 MAIN LEADS YEON WOO JIN, KIM SE JEONG, SONG JAE RIM, PARK JI YEON HIGHLIGHTS EXCELLENT WORKPLACE THEMED DRAMA, LOGICAL CAST PORTRAYAL, GOOD EXECUTION OF UNLAYERING OF MYSTERY PLOT OVERALL RATING RE-WATCH VALUE RELATED DRAMAS THE SMILE HAS LEFT YOUR EYES HIGHLIGHTS The mystery of Ianās death drove the story onward and forward. Whatās interesting is that as the plot unfolded, the characters, initially dark and mysterious, gently unfolded. Layer upon layer of their characters revealed the depth that was created for them. The entire cast portrayed the transition well from where they were shrouded in mystery up until they came to light. Screencap from Viu Yeon Woo Jin seems to excel in the dark and mysterious characters he gravitates towards. His most memorable role for me so far is still My Shy Boss. In I Wanna Hear Your Song, he gave another effective portrayal in the silent and mysterious type. But Yeon layered this character further by adding an edge of danger to the persona of Jang Yoon. KBS Kim Se Jeongās smile warmed my heart. Her bright aura despite the dreary mood of the drama was a highlight for me. Since School 2017, Kim has developed further into a different level of an actress. I was initially worried that a newbie like Kim wouldnāt be able to match Yeonās acting well, but the pair had an irresistible chemistry that made me come back for more each week. RECOMMENDATION Surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed this drama. I would suggest that this drama should be one of the must-sees for 2019. Its unique concept of using an orchestra as an integral part of the story added new flavor to the drama. Bringing in the mystery behind Ianās death adds an edge of whodunit, keeping you engrossed. Tying it up neatly was Yeon and Kim themselves, a very bright and becoming pair that might be the biggest and sweetest surprise of all.

The third season of I Think You Should Leave has arrived and with it, a new anthem that might make you wake up, move your head all around and realize that there just might be no rules. recaps discussion news cast 56 August 7, 2019August 14, 2019 Let Me Hear Your Song Episodes 1-4 Open Thread by missvictrix KBSās newest mystery rom-com just premiered, and yes, itās every bit the genre mash-up we were expecting. With a little bit of music, a lotta bit of humor, and a whole lot of mystery ā so far itās a well-told story with some great characters and a lot of questions. EPISODES 1-4 WEECAP The drama opens with our amnesiac + insomniac heroine HONG YI-YOUNG Kim Se-jung counting upwards of 45,000 sheep. For a girl with a sleeping problem ā and a memory problem ā sheās an absolute gem. She practices on her timpani with determination and discipline, even though sheās already failed 17 orchestra auditions. She works odd jobs, mostly as a designated driver, and remains remarkably persistent and optimistic. Itās her voice that narrates the drama, and itās her story thatās about to unfold. One rainy night, a stranger in her neighborhood offers her an umbrella. We later learn that heās the pianist JANG YOON Yeon Woo-jin, but to start heās just a weird guy in a black hoodie. Yi-young and Jang Yoon run into each other regularly in the neighborhood, and one interaction is more hilarious than the next. He tells her he will do anything for money, and winds up with the nightly job of calling her at 1150PM to sing her to sleep. Even when Yi-young catches a break, she canāt catch a break. The new āpassionateā orchestra director NAM JOO-WAN Song Jae-rim, killing it so far might have let her into Shinyoung Orchestra as the second timpanist, but itās going to be an uphill climb. Not only is she off to a rocky start once again accidentally flinging her mallet across the room, but the orchestra is a microcosm of drama. Thereās a hierarchy akin to any high school, a secret paparazzo that wreaks social havoc on the orchestraās forum ā and thereās a new first chair violinist and obvious female antagonist, HA EUN-JOO Ji-yeon. Oh, and Yoon also shows up as the orchestraās new pianist. He and Yi-young sure seem fated to meet, and if this was just a rom-com the story would rely on that ā but the mystery half of the drama makes it clear to us that Yoon knows a whole lot more about her past than Yi-young does. Ahh! While weāre being entertained with scenes of Yi-young and Yoon interacting these two are so great together onscreen, weāre also slowly clued in on Yi-youngās backstory. āThis is definitely not a love story,ā Yi-young warns us, āItās the story of a journey. The dark, vague, cruel journey to find my lost memories.ā Though she marches forward as though nothing is holding her back, sheās actually lost all her memories from the summer of the previous year. And occasionally, those repressed memories a creepyass knife, a ring on a manās finger are triggered by stimuli around her. For a genre oversaturated with stories of repressed memories and bouts of amnesia, I really liked this dramaās take on it. It felt mysterious instead of eyeroll boring, and the genre mash-up helped keep it feeling new. While a part of me feels like maybe I should have gotten tonal whiplash, for some reason it totally worked. And not only did it work, but I enjoyed it to the max, and was actually pretty impressed with how the drama switched tones with so much agility. Youāre crying with laughter one second, as Jang Yoon sings in the most godawful voice-cracking way you can imagine itās even funnier the second time!. Then, half a second later when he opens his piano bench to reveal a creepy secret, youāve got the goosebumps instead. I couldnāt have enjoyed these premiere episodes more. The characters are great, and the storytelling is quite well-paced. And thereās also the music component, which adds such a nice dimension to the drama. From Mozart to Tchaikovsky to Chopin, Let Me Hear Your Song uses some great classical music not only in the drama, but as a soundtrack to it. Sometimes strange things lure me into watching a drama, and with Let Me Hear Your Song, it was entirely the fault of this poster featuring Kim Se-jung with a tortured facial expression, and some fluffy sheep around her as she tries to sleep. Can a poster really set the tone for a drama? Can Let Me Hear Your Song be every bit as cute, comical ā and creepy ā as the poster promised? *Cue the orchestra* So far, the answer is a very dramatic yes. I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 7-8 Recap I Wanna Hear Your Song Episode 7-8 Recap. This episode definitely cleared up a lot of things regarding Jang Yoonās true intentions towards Yi Young and also we were left with an unexpected cliffhanger. Below are the highlights of episode 7-8, to see the recaps of episode 5-6, click here. Yi Young Cloudy Memory This episode continued with Yi Young feeling dizzy after learning about Jang Yoonās brother, Kim Ian, that was killed in the accident. She is left in a state of shock after trying to figure out why the name Kim Ianā was affecting her so much. After she was told he was murdered in a car accident it doesnāt seem like she had made the connection between her accident and his. Furthermore, Jang Yoon had revealed that Kim Ian was murdered by someone he loved, which adds to another part of this mysterious puzzle. It leads us to question if Yi Young and Kim Ian were involved romantically and who his actual killer was. The ending of the last episode was a bit misleading as it brought us the viewers to believe that, she had actually remembered who Kim Ian was. However in the continuation of this episode, she still actually doesnāt have a vivid recollection of who is he, however, we do see where she is triggered by the sound of his name. SIDENOTE Iām not sure if you guys notice, but every time Yi Young gets glimpses of the accident and Jang Yoon is present she always becomes afraid of him. Since the start of the drama, weāve seen where Yi Young suspects Jang Yoon but then she seems to like his cheekiness. So the viewer is left trying to figure if she likes or fears him. But I guess thatās why its a mystery genre. RELATED Jang Yoon Jealous? In this episode, we got to see more of the mysterious character of Jang Yoon. It is somewhat clear what his motives are towards Yi Young. Based on what weāve learned so far, he believes his brother was killed by Yi Young and it appears he is trying to clarify if sheās truly suffering from advanced traumatic seems that the reason for Jang Yoon appearing in Yi Youngās life is because he wants her to feel the guilt after killing someone he loved. He probably hates to see her living an unbothered life as if nothing ever happened. This can be proven by the different palaces he invites her to, they are all somewhat connected to his brother, hence that could be his way to bring back her lost memory. Also in this episode, we saw Jang Yoon showing jealousy when he saw that Maestro Nam and Yi Young were eating at the restaurant he worked. He immediately tried to trash their date by bringing up details about him and Yi Young calling each other at nights. And again it makes us question if he truly likes her or if he is trying to avenge his brotherās death. He somewhat seems confused at times as it appears he is slowly falling for Yi Young. The Kiss The kiss that happened in this episode was one of the highlights, it was certainly unexpected. We can definitely see where Yi Young is starting to acknowledge her feelings for Jang Yoon and it appears he is starting to do the same. What made this scene so delightful was how the kiss was initiated. Yi Young was very bold when she asked Jang Yoon if she could kiss him, at first it seemed like he hesitated but went in after a bit. As I said before, even though Jang Yoon has an ulterior motive towards Yi Young, he seems to be warming up to her and that kiss just made it official. The Biggest Cliffhanger Another highlight of this episode was finding out that Maestro Nam was at the scene of the car accident where Kim Ian was killed. In the flashback, he was seen standing over him. This writerās intentionally left us with this cliff hanger to make us believe that Maestro Nam could be the killer. Based on what weāve learned so far, Kim Ian was very talented, an assumption could be that he out-shined Maestro Nam and thatās why he got rid of theory is that Maestro Nam arrived at the scene late and was left in a state of sorrow as if he had been quicker, he could have saved Kim Ian. What do you guys think? I strongly believe it may be the latter. The preview looks very interesting and I canāt wait to learn more about what happened in that mysterious accident and who is actually responsible for the death of Kim Ian.
